Casa Familia is a modern house in Southern California that simultaneously look to the future direction (feature-rich technology), while considering the comfort of low-tech strategy in the past, a time before air conditioning and forced air units there. This is a comfortable and efficient home concept by Kevin deFreitas.

The aim of this project is to design and build highly efficient homes that will implement passive and active strategies to reduce energy, water, and power consumption while providing a modern home, comfortable and livable for the young family of six.

Through integrated research, experimentation and a good measure of faith, home electric proven success consume 65% less than the state mandated standards, and water 55% less than homes of comparable size without sacrificing comfort or aesthetics. From the architectural point of view it is important to eliminate errors common public perception that efficiency and conservation should see the “hippie” or alternative.
